Bird Island in False Creek

Via Flickr:
Yet another meeting of the Vancouver Urban Sketchers, today we met at the Olympic Village in False Creek.

I sketched the bird island, or "Habitat Island" as it's called.

From the City of Vancouver website: "Habitat Island is an urban sanctuary along Southeast False Creek. Deep layers of soil have been added to the area to provide nourishment for new trees to grow. Boulders and logs commonly found along the coastlines in this region of British Columbia provide a home for plants, small animals, insects, crabs, starfish, barnacles and other creatures. Surrounded by water at high tide, the island is also a sanctuary for birds. More than 200 native trees, as well as shrubs, flowers, and grasses that grow naturally in this region have been planted along the waterfront path and on the island."

Dollar Mill Ruins, North Vancouver

Just a quick digital sketch of the Dollar Mill Ruins at the foot of Sea Shell Lane, near Deep Cove. I chose an unconventional worm's eye point of view to make it imposing. It is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Kids love running around and within it!

Vancouver Zombie Walk

Every August hundreds of people put on zombie costumes and make up and parade through the city. The walking dead. Great fun.

Gabi Campanario who does sketches for the Seattle Times has a blog each week and he put my drawing in it, not in the paper. Makes me feel good.

Bolivar province, Ecuador

My apologies for being negligent with my contributions, All.  Busy times!  I have a ton of sketches sitting here that I'll try to post more frequently.

Regardless, I recently went to visit family in Ecuador where I did quite a bit sketching and digital studies. This is a quick ipad study of the landscape in province of Bolivar, near Guaranda. I wanted to capture the tapestry-like quality of the the fields. Beautiful stuff....
